All About the School of Rock!
The School of Rock is a classic-rock-oriented music radio program started in the Summer of 2005 by Jeff Smith & Marty Curry. Jeff & Marty had been an on-air talk-show team back in the early 90s on WVAC, 107.9 FM in Adrian, Michigan, and re-teamed to venture into the music they loved so well. In the Summer of 2007, they were joined by Trey Stohlman, and the team was formed. The mission of the School of Rock is to make sure that the true classics are never forgotten, and that all good music from the late 50s through the early 90s gets aired, especiall seldom-played deep and album cuts! Biographical information on the individual hosts is included below.
University in the School of Broadcast and Cinematic Art. He has been a fan of what is now called "Classic" rock since discovering FM radio in the early 70s in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Growing up with Detroit rock-and-roll left its imprint, and radio has been a steady influence and passion since Jeff did his first internship in radio at the ripe-old age of 15. Jeff's favorite groups list is too long to include in its entirety, but included Steely Dan, Blood Sweat & Tears, Boz Skaggs, The Moody Blues, Emerson Lake & Palmer, and Chicago.
the Saginaw-Chippewa Tribe of Mid-Michigan, Marty has been very active in community and cultural pursuits for a number of years. Marty's first taste of radio came at Adrian College with the Professor, and continues now on the School of Rock. Marty is an artist, specializing in photography and sculpture, as well as an afficianado of all-things pop-cultural. Among Marty's favorite groups are Queen (but not Bohemian Rhapsody), Slade, AC/DC, and anything that annoys Trey (especially Rush). Central Michigan University, with emphasis in media writing and performance, classes he now teaches. Before coming back to CMU to teach he worked as a club disc jockey in Florida. He has always loved music, from listening to performing. He grew up listening to the hair bands of the 80's, so some of his favorites are Bon Jovi, Poison, and Motley Crue. He's rediscovered his love for classic rock working with Jeff and Marty, and a new passion for artists like Queen, The Who, REO, Journey, Kiss, Styx, and Triumph (see there is one Canadian band that doesn't irritate him). |
